Below you will find the list (alphabetical) of all Democratic candidates who have declared that they are running for office in Monroe County. It is the policy of the Monroe County Democratic Party that we will create a single page on this website for each candidate, listing their announcement of candidacy, a photo, and a link to their campaign website. Candidates are individually responsible for creating and maintaining their own websites, if desired, for the posting of press releases, issues statements, appeals for donations, etc. We will publish only a candidate's original announcement, unedited, and will maintain such pages only to the extent of correcting typographic errors and the like, or to remove a page if a candidate drops out.

Cheryl Munson for Council

Building a Strong Foundation for Monroe County

Cheryl Munson today announced her candidacy as a Democrat for the Monroe County Council, District 2. Munson said, “As a longtime public servant, I bring many years of experience to the Council, as well as a record of standing up for good government.”

Chris Gaal for Prosecutor

Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Gaal today announced his campaign for re-election. “It has been an honor to serve as your elected prosecutor for the past three years,” said Gaal. “I have worked hard to enforce the law and hold criminals accountable while pursuing justice in a fair and even-handed manner.”

Gaal has been the driving force behind several ground-breaking community initiatives that have built partnerships to address important public safety issues.

Jenn Marcum for County Clerk

Jenn Marcum is running for Monroe County Clerk of the Circuit Court. The County Clerk’s office is responsible for three things: administering the elections, collecting and disbursing Court ordered monies and maintaining the Courts’ records. Marcum will bring better equipment and better training to the office she seeking. Marcum will coordinate the office by using the resources already at hand with collaboration of our local County and City offices.
Marcum has lived, worked, and volunteered in Monroe County for 12 years. The first campaign Marcum volunteered for in Bloomington was Mark Kruzan’s successful run for Mayor in 2003. With her husband, Kyle, and her two children, Laura and Noah, they spent many hours in the Democratic Headquarters on Morton Street stuffing envelopes and answering phones for the 2004 Presidential election.

Linda Robbins for County Clerk

Linda Robbins has announced that she will seek the Democratic nomination for Monroe County Clerk.

“I am currently serving as Deputy Clerk and have also worked in the Absentee Voting and Voter Registration offices. That experience coupled with 35 years in management for both private and public sectors provides me with a unique perspective of how the Clerk’s office can improve elections, operations and our service to the community. I think it is time to move from 36 years of the same names and faces to a fresh approach ensuring elections and office operations are as efficient as possible.”

Linda Sievers for Bloomington Township Trustee

Linda Sievers has announced that she will seek election as Township Trustee for Bloomington Township.

Sievers has served as Bloomington Township Trustee since January 2008. She served as assistant to the Trustee from 2001 to 2004, and as Deputy Trustee from 2004 to 2007. Sievers has 12 years’ prior management experience in both profit and non-profit environments. She holds a degree in social work from Indiana University.

Mike Szakaly for County Recorder

Mike Szakaly announced his candidacy as the Democratic nominee for Monroe County Recorder, the office responsible for maintaining public records from real estate documents to military discharge papers. He currently serves as Chief Deputy Recorder in that office.

Pat Stoffers for Commissioner

Patrick Stoffers has announced he will seek a second term on the Monroe County Board of Commissioners, representing District 1. Stoffers was first elected commissioner in 2006 and is in his third year as president of the board.

Pete Buttigieg for State Treasurer

Sam Allison to Run for Monroe County Council, Seat 4

County Recorder Sam Allison has filed to run for Monroe County Council, Seat 4.

"I have had a great term as County Recorder, and I am so grateful to so many people for that," said Allison. "Now it is time for another challenge, the challenge of overseeing the finances of a County that has been adding nearly 1,500 new residents per year to its population. And we sure do have a lot of challenges, due to the bad decisions coming out of Indianapolis."

Decisions, Allison said, that threaten Monroe County's quality of life.
