Vicky Sorensen

For Office:
Township Trustee - Indian Creek

Citing numerous issues facing township citizens, long-time resident Vicky Sorensen announced her candidacy as a Democrat for Indian Creek Township Trustee today. “Someone must step forward and challenge the status quo in our township; I am ready to create a township government that is responsive to the citizens who elect and fund it and who expect top-notch service from their elected officials.”

Sorensen is running side by side with the “Putting the Trust Back in Trustee” team; she will hold meetings that taxpayers can attend and will present open books to the public. “Most of our residents work during the day and cannot attend daytime meetings; we will hold meetings that are convenient to our taxpayers, not our board members,” she said. In this way, trust can begin to be restored to this important local government position.

Working with a board that is interested in the community’s public safety “is so important,” said Sorensen. “We must restore true public safety in our township while helping to reduce insurance rates for homeowners, and assist our community fire station as the safest and most economical way to proceed. Those men and women of the Indian Creek Fire Fighters who volunteer and put their lives on the line for us deserve to be treated with respect; our citizens need to know that help is available and close at all times.” Daytime EMT service located centrally will be a hallmark of this administration.

“We cannot forget the most unfortunate of our citizens,” Sorensen added. “Those who are down and out must be able to easily access services at the township level; with regular office hours and considerate treatment, we will work to provide emergency services to our neighbors in need.” As a Court-Appointed Special Advocate and a special-education para-educator at MCCSC, Sorensen knows how to work with those in crisis.

“Funds today are more scarce than ever; we cannot waste even a penny on unnecessary expenditures,” stated Sorensen. “We must care for our cemeteries and our park while saving for the future. We cannot achieve community plans by spending tax money on lawsuits and out-of-county fire barns. We must return to fiscal responsibility,” she said. Her prior experience interacting with the State Board of Accounts will go a long way toward provision of accurate recordkeeping.

Sorensen holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Indiana University and is active in the Kirksville Lions Club and as a board member of Walker’s Chapel; she is Secretary of the Steering Committee of Citizens for Appropriate Rural Roads and has served in numerous volunteer capacities in her 34 years in Monroe County. “Having lived and raised my children in this township for 24 of those years, I want nothing but the best for our rural home. Let’s bring unity back to the Indian Creek Township community by Putting the Trust Back in Trustee.”
