Your Monroe County Democratic Party will hold its annual Roosevelt Reception on April 6, 2023, at the Monroe Convention Center. In 2022, MCDP renamed our Spring event to honor not only the legacy of FDR’s founding of the modern Democratic Party but also Eleanor Roosevelt’s voice as a global citizen and fighter for human rights.

First, come meet the municipal candidates at our Candidate Cocktail Hour, where guests punch their cards with candidates and can win a chance for a door prize of locally-sourced Bloomington goodies.

This year we welcome for our annual Eleanor Roosevelt Keynote speaker, Rosemary Ketchum, a city councilor from Wheeling, WV, and a contemporary voice for rights and progress in our time. Rosemary is the first Transgender woman elected to office in West Virginia.

We will also welcome Dave Bride, the vice-chair of the Marion County Democrats, a chapter president in the Central Indiana AFL-CIO and ASFME Local 725 union member to pay tribute to past and future Labor leaders in his Four Freedoms Remarks.

State Senator Shelli Yoder will give us a rundown on the latest at the Statehouse. Additional speakers forthcoming!

As our local candidates gather in our first week of early voting, the Roosevelt Reception has become Bloomington’s spring political event to gear up for the General election and to reassert our voice in state and national affairs.
